A New and Distinguished Scientific Achievement by the Staff of the Biomedical Engineering Research Centre at University of Anbar

In a remarkable scientific achievement that adds to the record of academic excellence at the University of Anbar, the student Kadhim Ahmed Abdul Latif, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Yousif Ismail Al-Mashhadani, has achieved a notable success by obtaining fifth place in the 26th Arab Creative Student Forum, organized by the Student Training Department of the Association of Arab Universities under the theme: “Opportunities and Challenges Facing Educational Institutions in Light of Technological Developments”, held from November 1–6, 2025, at Nizwa University – Sultanate of Oman. The participation was represented by the graduation project for the academic year 2024–2025, entitled: “Design and Implementation of Speech Unit Based on Electroencephalography (EEG) Signal.” The project was conducted by students of the Department of Electrical Engineering, College of Engineering: Kadhim Ahmed Abdul Latif, Mohammed Imran Kafi, and Othman Adel Rajab, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Yousif Ismail Al-Mashhadani and Dr. Muhannad Abdul-Salam Al-Askari. The project stood out for its innovative idea, which aims to develop a technological solution enabling individuals with hearing impairments to communicate verbally by converting electrical brain signals (EEG) associated with the thought of speech into spoken words and sentences. The system relies on artificial intelligence and deep learning techniques to analyze neural patterns and translate them into comprehensible audio signals, thereby contributing to improving the quality of life of individuals with hearing disabilities and enhancing their social integration. The experimental results of the project demonstrated high efficiency in recognizing brain signals related to speech, confirming the potential of integrating EEG-based neural measurements with deep learning technologies to develop assistive innovations in both medical and humanitarian domains. This achievement came within a highly competitive scientific event, where 60 research projects were selected from a total of 172 submissions, representing 36 universities across nine Arab countries: Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Palestine, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, Syria, and the Sultanate of Oman. It is noteworthy that this marks the fourth consecutive participation of Prof. Dr. Yousif Ismail Al-Mashhadani in this prestigious forum. His previous participations were distinguished by winning first place in 2024, third place in 2023, and second place in 2022, reflecting his continuous excellence and creativity in academic and research pursuits. We sincerely wish continued success and achievement to all researchers and academics in our Arab universities, with the hope of further accomplishments that advance scientific research and student innovation across the Arab world.
