An applied study entitled: Automation of Statistical Computer Systems Serving the Livestock Sector in Babylon Province

As part of the strategic plan of the Biomedical Engineering Research Center at the University of Anbar to foster scientific and research collaboration with institutions in the agricultural sector—and in alignment with its community service initiatives—a research team from the Center, led by Prof Dr. Yousif Al-Mashhadany, and including Dr. Muhannad AbdulSalam and Dr. Ali Amer Al-Rawi, conducted an applied study entitled: "Automation of Statistical Computer Systems Serving the Livestock Sector in Babylon Province." The study included a field workshop presented by Dr. Muhannad AbdulSalam at the Directorate of Agriculture in Babylon Province, during which a specialized software program was introduced for the statistical registration and profiling of horses. This program represents a significant advancement in the transition from traditional paper-based systems to an integrated electronic platform that ensures data preservation, ease of access, and reduced operational costs associated with paper use, photocopying equipment, ink, and other office supplies. The initiative was met with strong support from the Director of the Directorate of Agriculture in Babylon, Engineer Thamer Al-Khafaji, as well as Mr. Ali Hamed Abdul-Hassan, Head of the Agricultural Studies and Policy Division. Both expressed their appreciation for the project, recognizing its potential to enhance the support provided to horse breeders—particularly through improved allocation of feed resources such as barley—thus encouraging the preservation and cultivation of horses, which represent a vital component of Iraq’s indigenous animal genetic heritage. This study exemplifies the Biomedical Engineering Research Center’s proactive approach to leveraging modern digital technologies in service of key sectors. It highlights the potential for interdisciplinary collaboration between engineering and agriculture to support sustainable development goals within the local community.
